Mar5/A Voice for Mikey foundation may have saved our son’s life. Our autistic child loves water and will run to any pond, pool, or lake that he sees. He can take off in the blink of an eye, so I can never take my eyes off him anywhere in public. Children with autism are 160x more likely to drown than other children due to their tendency to run off and find water. They have trouble generalizing swim lesson skills across different contexts, making swim lessons a necessary but not altogether reliable way to prevent drowning.
Mar5/A Voice for Mikey generously gave us a wearable GPS tracking device and subscription that allows me to immediately track my son’s location on an app. I’ve used it more than once to ensure that our son wasn’t heading for water. Thank you A Voice for Mikey for saving lives, literally!
